Let's Talk About... Majors!! =D

Hiiiiiii everyone! This thread is open to anyone interested in reviewing the most popular majors or “strongest” majors (though Harvard must be strong in all right?) at Harvard Undergrad!

;_; Who knows… where this thread will Go!

To start off:

Anthropology is the most popular major for undergrads right? Does it mean that if you choose this major it will present even More (obviously there’s a lot of competition already) for applicants?

How strong is the Russian language major? Is it popular = does a substantial amount of students take it?

Thanks!!

"Concentrations, not majors" among other things. Anthropology?

http://prefrosh.net/go/Concentrations

hmmm.. i don't know, i went here...

yes, anthropology.. ? wait.. so is collegeboard not a reliable source to look up majors (concentrations?)?

http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=1251&profileId=7

Social Sciences≠Anthropology. Social sciences seems like it would include government, social studies, and economics, in addition to anthro + sociology.

I just heard from a dean that overall, the breakdown is 5:3:2 social sciences: quantitative sciences : humanities, which seems similar to the collegeboard figures.

The most popular concentration is usually economics, though government, English, psychology, and biology are all very big.

Russian (or Slavic Language and Lit) is a small department, but it's fantastic, one of the best Russian programs in the country.

thanx for the info!

and i'm really glad to hear that! =) (let's see if i'll be able to attend it !!)

The strongest programs include the biological sciences, economics, political science, east asian studies and african american studies, among others. Most programs are top-notch, of course, although some, notably engineering, are not so good.

I was under the impression (this isn't my field though), that Biomedical Engineering was rather strong. Math, I've heard, is top-notch.
