Hi parents,
I was hoping some of you college veterans could help me out!

I received an email from UPS (the shipping company), saying that a letter from Enrolment Management will arrive at my house on Dec 21 (I live in India). But it doesn't say which college!!

Also does this mean that I have been accepted by this college? I only ask this because the letter is from Enrolment and not Admissions. Can any of you give me even a vague idea of what is going on?

Enrollment management is a general term for the college department that handles marketing, admissions, and yield strategies. The letter could mean anything. It probably will tell you whether you have been accepted, rejected, or wait listed. I hope you get happy news.

Check to see online of the application is indicated as accepted! They might have emailed you congrats!

Of course see if UPYS WILL give you the weight of the package. sometimes – just a general rule of thumb of Eucharistic that says that rejection letters tend to be ordinary letters while acceptance letters are bigger/heavier.

I doubt VERY MUCH that this is Spam! It is very unlikely that a spammer would use UPS of all the things in the world to harass people in India! No, many colleges use UPS to reach out to applicants who do not live in the same country as the college itself because it is hard to mail domestically across the ocean you know!

I am not swearing 100% that it sadmission letter but it is very likely that it is a ACCEPTANCE or REJECTION and not a generic advertisement.

Actually there have been a number of spam emails about mailings received at THIS house. When we called, we were told these vendors do NOT send emails. There is NO PLACE on their forms for YOUR email address…none…not on UPS, not on USPS, not on FEDEX.

For clarification, why don’t you email the colleges to see if any of them sent you anything.

Also, what did YOUR email tell you to do? Mine had a link and were clearly fishing for MY data.

Just to clarify - they are not saying that the UPS package is spam, but the email telling
you something is coming might be spam and just fishing for your data. Don’t click on
any links in the email. A hint that it might be spam is that enrolment is spelled wrong
and in the US, it is called Admissions Office. If the email itself is actually coming from
a real admissions office telling you to expect a package, then you might be getting good
news. As stated above, UPS doesn’t actually email you.

This is not true. When you purchase a mailing label online from all three of these vendors there is the option to include the email address of the recipient, and the option for them to be notified by email that the package has been shipped. I do it all the time.

S got a bill/notification from UPS once that we thought was a scam. Turned out to be legit, though, after investigation. And much to my surprise. :)

What I find weird about this case is the term “Enrolment [sic] Management.” I’ve never heard of a school corresponding with kids using that term. It’s always Admissions, in my experience.

I get emails all the time from UPS or FedEX when I’m waiting for a package - it has my tracking number and I can see when to expect delivery.

As for OP’s email, it could be anything from a brochure to an acceptance. He/She will just have to wait! (And OP, please let us know what happens!)
