Letter from Ruth Simmons to interviewees

Hi. Does anyone know how many kids who go to Brown for on campus interviews get a letter from the president asking them to apply.

The letter reads in part:

“Your record of accomplishment to date convinces us that you have the talent and initiative to be a very strong candidate for admission to Brown - and that you, in turn, would benefit significantly by attending the college with us here. I would like to invite you to consider the advantages of becoming a Brown student.”

Do they send this to everyone or is this an encouraging sign?

If the letters are selective, what percentage of kids receive them?

Dunno, but sounds like a mass letter.

Brown doesn’t have on-campus interviews.

And this is the type of letter that is sent to kids with high SAT scores and strong GPAs.

I got the same letter. Colleges do send out these types of letters to urge more people to apply, thus more people to deny making them more selective. I’m a minority so maybe this was sent out to targeted groups
