i am currently a junior undergrad student. I wish to enter a PA (physician assistant)program upon graduation. However, my gpa is extremely low and it is because for the last three years i have had a roomate/friend who attends school with me that is very sick with heart problems. I have been there for her through all the hospital visits and seizures and near death experiences. My commitment to our friendship has caused me to lose focus and not be able to perform as well as i am capable of in school. If i was to write a letter to the colleges that i am applying to, would this be considered an extenuating circumstance???

It very well may be, but the best person to write such a letter is your HS college counselor. Most kids don’t have the perspective & experience of the adult world to write letters about extenuating circumstances without slipping into excuses and blaming others for their problems. Note, too, that until you prove you can do better quality work then colleges have nothing to base such a belief on; you should be sure to investigate options such as general ed at a college or CC where you show you can do the quality of work required for a PA program.

OP is an undergrad student, junior, not really a kid any longer.

OP, it might be an extenuating circumstance but each school may look at it differently.
