Having gone through this twice, I have yet to see a coach blink when told that the athlete needs to wait until after the final OV to make a decision. This seems to me to be one-half good manners (the school may have already incurred non-refundable expenses on the athlete’s behalf) and one-half good sense-- why not keep the options open for one more week? There are athletes who have changed their minds based on the official.

Agree with @classicalmama. OV’s are a finite, expensive resource, and options are good things. That said, there are circumstances where this may be impossible (like the admissions committee meeting for that sport happens before the next scheduled OV). But in general, the more information you gather the better off you are.
