Letter of Rec from a Brand new counselor?

I just became a senior and I got switched from my old counselor that I had for 3 years to a new counselor (a brand new one that was just hired, never seen her before in my life). I need a letter of recommendation from my counselor for certain things like college apps and questbridge. Would it be a good idea to get a letter of recommendation from a counselor that I only met for a day? She seemed really enthusiastic and said she would help me with anything I needed (since I was a top student) but that doesn’t change the fact that I only knew her for a day (she would have nothing to talk about other than whatever I have on my resume that I would send her). I tried to get my old counselor to write me a letter but she said she doesn’t think she can cause she’s not my counselor anymore (basically she said no).

What should I do?

Counselor recs rarely mean anything anyways. At my school, we give our gc a resume and some short reflective personal responses, even if we had the same gc all four years. You could do the same and give your new gc a resume and personal statement to help her learn about you and write the letter.

@cslc76 I haven’t started my personal statements yet. Is that bad? I’ve already asked for teacher recommendations and counselor recommendations though. I only sent a resume.

It’s not bad at all; school hasn’t even started yet for most people. You have plenty of time to hand out personal statements if you want to. Teachers likely know enough about you, but your counselor does not. It might be helpful to give your counselor a personal statement, but only if you feel your resume doesn’t say everything about you that you want them to know.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much, recommendations are most irrelevant to adcoms.

You counselor rec isnt really important. Focus on getting recs from teachers that really know you since that is what colleges will actually consider.
