Letter of Rec problem, please help.

Hi,

I’m in a bit of an unusual situation, and while I’ve been in contact with both schools and the CommonApp support team none of them seem to get it. Some background, I dropped out of school a few years ago, and now I’m finally considering going back, and so I’m applying as a transfer. About half of the schools I’m applying to require letters of recommendation from professors, however since I’m far removed from my old school I asked each school that requires this if I could submit an employer letter of rec in lieu of one from a professor, they all granted me permission to do so.

However as I was going to put my recommeder’s name in the system I noticed that it is mostly formatted/made for a professor. I looked into further and it seems like there would be some questions that she wouldn’t be able answer. With this in mind I contacted the common app support team, unfortunately they provided little in the way of support and implied that I couldn’t submit my app without a teacher rec, even given my situation. I contacted the schools and none of them seemed to concerned, just submit the letter of rec in the mail they said.

So this being said, can I submit my common app without the required recommender in the system? To be clear, I’m submitting the letter of rec through the mail, however its not going through the common app, so I worry if will even be allowed to submit it.

Thanks for reading this, looking forward to some sort of answer.

Yes, since you have approval from the schools it is fine.
