I’ve heard conflicting messages from colleges… some require only letters of rec from junior/senior teacher while others simply say “teachers who know you best.” I’ve already asked for letters from two of my teachers, bc I’ve heard it’s better to ask at the end of junior year, but I’m not sure if I’ve made an “appropriate choice.” One of my teachers I had junior year for AP Comparative Politics and I’ve also had him for three years as my debate coach. My other teacher (he’s normally a senior teacher) I had for AP Calc AB in freshman year and BC in sophomore year, and I still stay in touch with him a lot to the point where I still consider him a teacher. He definitely knows the current me very good. I’m also considering a career in math, so I think it’d be very advantageous for me. Should I ask for a third letter of rec from another junior year teacher or should I leave it be? Thank you.
Unless a college you apply to specifically asks for LORs from only junior/senior year teachers that sounds fine. FWIW my D used one sophomore year HS teacher (he was also her advisor in a program) and had no issues.
Okay, thank you so much @happy1 ! I honestly feel a lot better now. I’m applying to really competitive schools so I picked the teachers who knew me BEST bc I thought it would help my chances.
The college counselors at my school told us to only get LoR from teachers we had Junior year (not soph or fresh) UNLESS it was someone we had as a fresh or soph but still have a sort of special connection with, and it sounds like you fit in that boat, so it should be fine!
@virgosun thanks!
Your recs sound perfect! Now start working on some great essays. They will definitely count this year.
