Letter of Recommendation Dilemmas

Hi

I am graduating in May, and am planning to apply to med school. I need a humanities rec, and have been attending office hours relatively frequently for a humanities class. It is one-on-one, so I feel like the professor knows who I am... The problem is, I never really participate in lecture (though I do in discussion), so I don't know if that will count against me as he is very big on participation. I have a question about when to ask this particular professor for a LOR. In the past- I have always emailed before meeting with the professor, but I am apprehensive about going that route for this professor. Also, do people generally ask before finals, or after finals? In addition, is it appropriate to ask during office hours before finals (I feel like I'm jacking someone else's 15 minute timeslot just to ask for a LOR).

I think you should ask him after finals (once you have your grade).
