Letter of recommendation from a sophomore year teacher?

I it okay to get a recommendation from a teacher I had before junior/senior year?

I want to ask my english teacher that I had for freshmen and sophomore year to write me a recommendation. My parents went through a really messy divorce my freshmen year and I just feel like she would be able to give me a great rec. about how hard I worked even with what was going on at the time. The class was a pre-IB class and very rigorous if that makes any difference.

I know it is better to get LoR from junior/senior year teachers, but I moved in the middle of my junior year and I don't really have an amazing relationship with any of the teachers at my new school (they don't really know me that well).

The BEST LOR I have ever read was by my D’s Soph Chem teacher. The teacher is rated a top teacher every year, and the letter she wrote for my D was outstanding. It was specific, well written, insightful, and stopped just short of recommending my D for a Nobel Prize in Chem.

So, yeah. I think a Soph teacher is just fine. And my son asked his Soph Math teacher and Jr. English teachers for LORs. And since they both got into Northwestern, I think it worked out ok. Good luck to you.

Thank you!
