Hi I’m a rising Senior and I’m figuring out teacher recommendations at the moment…
So I’m applying to a few top tier schools for science (probably bio) and my counselor told us to get at least 2 recommendations. I have already asked my current math teacher, who said yes, and wanted to ask a humanities teacher as well.
I’m not a fan of Social Studies so I’m not very assertive in my SS classes.
I’ve had two English teachers in the past and I can’t decided which one to ask. I know that colleges want the junior year teacher but… idk…
so my two teachers:
Teacher A: I had her for freshmen and Sophomore year and I worked with her throughout junior year as the national english honor society secretary.
Teacher B: I have her this year but compared to the other teacher, she doesn’t know me as well. She’s also a very popular teacher so she has a lot of students asking her for recommendations.
I think my biggest dilemma right now is whether asking a freshmen/sophomore teacher is a huge setback. (Especially if she would be able to write me a good recommendation)
Both my recommendations were from Sophomore teachers and I got in to numerous top tier schools (Duke, Columbia, MIT, etc). If they know you very well and can tell about your progression in high school, then that’s the golden recommendation. Good luck!
My D got one of her recommendations from a soph. year teacher who she was still involved with in a club and it was just fine. I’d go with the fresh/soph year teacher who knows you better.
I have the same issue, I have asked my junior history teacher, but I also asked my science sophomore teacher. I will be a poli sci major and this teacher is a sponsor of a club, I eat lunch everyday in his classroom, he tutors me when I need help, he has invited me on club trips to a few states so hopefully it is not extremely detrimental to me applications
I ended up asking my Junior english teacher. I don’t know what she wrote for recommendations since teachers are not allowed to show us recs at our school… fingers crossed
