Letter of Recommendation from college professor

I am thinking about the teachers that I want to ask to write a letter of recommendation for upcoming college admissions. So far, I have a few teachers in mind and my counselor. However, I feel that my application would greatly benefit by submitting a letter of rec from a college professor. She has gotten to know me very well while I served as her volunteer lab assistant. I was wondering if this is acceptable, or desirable, for highly selective colleges?

The prof’s LoR should only be a secondary supplement to your HS teachers’ LoRs – b/c they see you interact among your peers over a longer period of time. How many HS students does the prof interact with any given year? 3? Plus, unless you’re the creator of some genuine scholarly work under her (i.e. something publishable), what’s she going to say about you that a shift manager at McDonald’s can’t say about a top worker?

“sammyjane works extremely hard, often w/o direct supervision. sammyjane really owns the work and is an asset and I wish I had more workers like sammyjane” Who wrote this? Prof or McD manager?
