ive been reading the application paper, and it says we have to ask 2 teachers for the letters. i'm really close to my science teacher, but i don't really like anyone else in particular. however, ive been with my piano teacher for ... 12 years? i absolutely love her since i made her into the popular teacher she is today. my counselor told me i couldn't ask her, but i think she's lying. any opinions? should i just send my piano teacher's rec anyway?

This would count as a supplemental recommendation. You can send it in, but you still need two teacher recommendations.

a supplemental recommendation? is it on the common or harvard supplement? i'm downloading the application papers since i never received my application from harvard. it should be the same right?

You can send a supplemental recommendation that does not have to be specific to the Common Application outline. It gets adcoms confused if you send in multiple recs that use the Common App format. If you do, make sure to denote at the top that it is a supplemental rec, not a teacher one.
