Teacher Recommendations and Supplementary Recommendations

I have a quick question... I know that sending in more than the required recommendation amount is bad, but I really need to get this one outside recommendation in. I've already set up for three teachers to send recommendations to Harvard (Science, History, and Language), but there is one outside supplementary recommendation (reference letter) that is very important to me and I want to get in. I don't know if that is being overly excessive or not...

I feel like it shouldn't be because I know this recommendation will add something new that they have not heard of from my teacher. But I don't know... Any suggestions?

You should send it in.

I would question the logic of the three teacher recommendations. Without seeing them, my instinct is to cut one of them. Odds are there is some redundancy between those three. I would then add the outside rec that hopefully knows you in a different way.

It is quality not quantity that you want.
