I've been the intern for a professor at a lab for two years. I found the lab through a science research program at school. Recently i asked her if she is willing to write me a recommendation letter. She agreed, and i was rejoicing until i logged onto Common App. The Recommendation section only allows for teachers and counselors. Technically she is my mentor, but since coming to the lab and conducting research counts as a grade in the program im involved in, isn't she technically a teacher? So my question is can i ask her to write me a letter of recommendation as a teacher?

Thanks in advance

I don’t think you could have her fill out the teacher recommendation form since she isn’t considered a “teacher” unless she has taught you in a specific school course. However, I suggest you ask her to write a supplemental recommendation, which can be directly sent to colleges.

Do you know how or where i can get a from though? Thanks

I’m not sure where you can get a supplemental recommendation, but make sure you check it with the schools. Some schools REQUIRE a recommendation from a teacher who has taught you in an academic subject.

I don’t think you need a supplemental recommendation form for most schools. YOu can just have the recommender address it to the school’s admission office and make sure your name and b-day is clearly on it.
