Well, we know letters went out yesterday, anyone receive theirs yet?

I got mine near Binghamton today. Waitlisted :/. I don’t think I’m going to accept my spot on the waiting list.

If you were waitlisted, can you post your stats??? Waiting for a letter at this end.

So it is the case this year? Colgate no longer emails rejections or waitlistings even for int’ls? Finger crossed for everyone!

what areas got their letters today? i’m from maryland and am still waiting…

SAT: 720 CR 650 M 790 W
ACT: 33 composite
GPA: 97 out of 100

I took 6 ap classes and a lot of honors classes too.

ECs: took karate for over ten years and am a 2nd degree black belt, band since 4th grade and clarinet section leader, National Honor Society, International Club, hosted a foreign exchange student, indoor and outdoor track

I think two of the reasons why I got waitlisted were my SAT math score and the fact that Colgate is not need-blind. My household income is only about $90K so I would have needed a decent amount of financial aid to attend.

i havent gotten anything either.
does anyone have an idea as to how many deferred candidates are then offered admission?

2010 Princeton Review says the 515 are waitlisted and 2% are taken off the waitlist. My guess is that 2% are full paying students.

what about those deferred from the two early decision rounds?

D. received acceptance today in Central New York.

33 ACT
2150 SAT
NMF
2 season varsity athlete for four years/captain of both as junior & senior

minoafrau & karategirl - What were your envelopes/ letters like? Fat/thin what?

No letters yet in S. Asia.

I know!..:(…So that means that if you are applying for Financial Aid you chances are less?

yes.
but its not just colgate that adopts this policy.

Mine came in a small envelope that was a little thick because of the waitlist form and envelope to send it back in.

Karategirl431993, you have great stats. Another school will be happy to have you.

Large envelope, no congratulatory language on the outside, but the size of the envelope gave away the contents.

Good luck everyone today.

accepted!!! international

Dear XXXXXX:

Among the many tasks faced by the Colgate admission staff, by far the most difficult responsibility we have is to notify a student that we are unable to offer admission. We appreciate the interest you have shown in Colgate and the dedication reflected in your academic and personal record, but after careful review of our applicant pool, I am sorry to inform you of our conclusion that we cannot offer you a position in the Colgate Class of 2015.

The admission process this year was highly competitive. We have reviewed applications from more than 7,800 talented students for 760 places in the class. In recent years we have enjoyed an increasing level of interest from very talented students. One consequence of this stronger applicant pool is that we must disappoint many students who certainly could meet the challenge of a Colgate education and contribute to life on campus. Our decision to deny admission is very much a reflection of this competitive situation in which we do not have room to admit many fine candidates.

I trust that you have identified some alternate college choices that will provide the academic challenge you seek. If your interest in Colgate continues, however, you are welcome to apply for admission as a transfer student once you have completed one year of college work in the liberal arts at another institution.

XXXXXXX, I am sorry that the news today is not pleasant. I received notifications like this myself so I know how you feel. We remain grateful to you for choosing to apply to Colgate and respect the effort you devoted to your application and preparation for college. We also hope the remainder of your senior year will be filled with a sense of optimism and excitement as you make plans to complete high school and begin your college years. I do want you to know that the admission committee at Colgate wishes you the very best success throughout the future.

Sincerely,
Gary L. Ross
Vice President and Dean of Admission
