Letters asking to apply.

I was wondering if any of you have ever gotten any spam emails from PhD programs asking you to apply to their programs? I haven't taken the GRE or any other type of test that may send my information to grad schools, so I have not been recruited by any program yet. In high school, I remember an aggressive recruiting campaign by smaller private schools after I took my first ACT test.

All the time. Unless they’re being sent from an individual faculty member and the emails are actually personalized to your profile (and not just numbers and whatnot), I’d ignore them.

I got a flood of emails and postcards after I took my GREs, but it was mostly the same 5 programs spamming me on a semi-daily basis.

Columbia sends me mail all the time because I half-finished an application ten years ago. TEN YEARS.
