Okay...sorry to have scared everyone. Talk about torture. I'm sitting on a large envelope only to figure out that it's her art portfolio. It was mailed on March 19th. Do they send them ALL back or just rejections or just acceptances? Who knows?

I'll keep you posted.
Again, sorry for the confusion.

Toshima and ww007, we are about 15 minutes from campus so something mailed from ND (Thursday) can easily make it to our house the next day (Friday). He is doing a little better tonight, all his buddies who are already admitted (EA) to ND took him out to a movie to help cheer him up. He has already mailed his response card back to ND to be on the "wait list".

Kaleidoscope, being very objective, all I will say is he seemed very solid from the stats I have read in this forum over the past several months. I don't want to post anything that may make someone feel like it is a lost cause because there will be many more kids that get bad news versus good news....

martyh- I feel for you and your son. I'm wondering how many kids were accepted earl action from your school because maybe that has an impact on how many more they are willing to accept RD? Every school wants to increase their diversity so I think they would not want to accept too many from the same school with the same profiles etc. Another lesson learned in this process- apply to as many schools as you can early action- no matter what the colleges say.

I firmly disagree. I've been admitted to 9 schools so far, 4 of which are ranked in the top-25 in the country. The one highly ranked one I was not admitted to I applied to EA. I was deferred, and ultimately waitlisted. Based on the other schools I was admitted to, I should have been a strong candidate for admission to this school as well.

Many schools review deferred applicants last in the EA pool, and thus only admit them if they have room in the entering class. Similar to applying at the end of a rolling admissions system--fewer available spaces, and thus more competition.

Follow the college's guidelines in determining whether you are "good enough"' to apply early-they do the admission, and they know best.

vc08 - I don't really disagree with you. I guess it depends on the kid but my real point is that it may also depend on how many kids from your school are applying early action. If a bunch of kids are applying from your school early and you don't and have similar stats, maybe it hurts your chances to apply RD (if a bunch have already gotten accepted). I don't know- it just makes sense that they wouldn't want too many kids from one school unless the RD candidate has perfect stats and stands out in other ways.

ww: Ahh, I see what you are saying (I didn't realize you were speaking of one school in particular). You could be right, I'm not sure. I guess in that case the best thing to do would be to try and get in touch with a regional rep and ask them.

Who knows? I guess I'm just trying to make sense of something that seems so arbitrary and unexplainable. Good luck with the rest of your colleges.
