Letters of Recommendation Outside of School

Hello everyone. I’m currently applying for colleges and am concerned about Letters of Recommendations. My father was once very involved in politics and knows multiple highly-regarded politicians personally. He has recently asked an influential ex-governor for a letter, in which he happily agreed to write, but I am conflicted. Despite the governor being a close family friend, I am not entirely certain that it will resonate well with the admission officers of a state school I want to send it to (the governor worked for the same state as the college I’m applying to). Honestly, I am very overwhelmed just thinking about colleges and am not sure if my worries are reasonable. So here’s my main question, will admissions consider a letter of recommendation from an influential figure, or will they regard it as bogus?

Does this ex-governor know you personally? Could he describe your personality with nuance in the letter? If not, then I don’t think this recommendation would be helpful. If he could, then I think it can’t hurt though I’m not sure how much it would help.
