HI guys, I’ve recently begun to ask my teachers from this year for letters of recommendation, in preparation for transferring next year. I’m thinking of transferring to the design programs of various schools. Can anyone give me any input as to what colleges are looking for in the letters of rec from their transfer students? I remember that the big piece of advice for when we were applying from high school was to have the teacher write something that’s not evident already in your application, so have them write about your character, not about your established accomplishments. Does this still stand?
And how exactly do letters of rec exchange hands?
Thank you!! Any input is appreciated.
Yes you want your letters to show your character and possibly some accomplishments not suitable to place in your application. You can technically get your letters of recommendation from anyone. It does not have to be a professor. I got a letter from my boss at the end of my year long internship. Try to get a letter from someone you’ve had a lot of contact with in a professional setting. You don’t need more than 3 letters. Make sure you ask early preferable at least a month and a half in advance so your professors/peers have time to write it for you. Honestly though extracurricular activities and letter of recommendations and your essays for application can affect your admission decision only if your gpa is somewhere near the cutoff and they aren’t sure who to admit.
