Letters of Recommendation

Which teachers should I get my letters of recommendation from. I know they say teachers that will write a good letter, but does admissions prefer letters from certain people (with regards to subjects they teach, years they taught me, etc.)

Thanks.

guidance counslor

No it doesnt have to be a guidance counselor. Pick a teacher/mentor who knows you really well and can write more than just a generic rec. letter.

I asked my ap world history teacher who I also traveled to Europe with. She knew me pretty well and I know she was going to put something that could add to the application.

Remember they arent even going to be read unless they are on the fence about you. Its still good to send one in though, but dont stress yourself out about more than one.

They're not looking for anyone specific, it can be anyone who can attest to your work ethic and potential and as kristen says, should know you well.

Regardles if you think they are going to read it or not make sure your rec comes from a teacher that not only knows you but from a teacher hat will write a good quality rec (more than the typical so and so is a hard worker and dedicated type thing). AP teachers in my experience are good because often many of them have a lot of experience writing recs for students applying to college.

Should it be a teacher writing your letter above all? Would a Federal Judge be better or do they prefer teachers??

Whoever will write the most detail about you. Try not to get teachers who write generic letters, such as he/she sits in the front row and ask questions and get A's. Instead get someone who will write about your ability to succeed, work ethic, personality, etc.
