Letters of Recommendation

Hi,

I was wondering, besides your usual letters of rec., would it be a plus if you submit a letter of rec. from someone that is well respected and well known?

e.g., You worked with the world tennis champion during a charity project that gave disabled children the chance to play tennis. (I know - its random). And you were able to get to know them pretty well, and you received a letter of rec. for college from them...

[The above scenario is just something that popped up when thinking of an example]

Would a letter like that be a positive aid?

Thanks :)

Honestly, I don’t think so. If anything, I think it looks a little desperate, especially if this “famous” person doesn’t know you very well. Ultimately, colleges want recs from people who know you well and will be able to provide insight into your character, work ethic, passions, etc. Have them write an extra rec if you think they can tell the adcoms something about you that the other recs will not tell them, but don’t get the rec just because it’s from a famous person.
