Hi I was just wondering whether letters and emails from the University of Chicago or other top universities mean they have some intrest? I am sure tons of kids must be recieving these letters, and therefore I am not sure whether to reply back to these colleges?

Most of this stuff is simply marketing. However, many schools like to see a track record of interest. Plus you will enjoy those U of C postcards.

I never received any letters inserts a really sad looking face here

I never did either until I signed up to be on their mailing list, and now I'm accepted EA. It is definately not the end of the world. But, please, apply to be on the mailing list.

Do sign up for the mailing list... in terms of all of the random college mailings I've recieved (...tons...) UChicago's have been the most interesting, and I think I have actually read/wanted to read/learned something useful from all of them.

where can you sign up to get mailings from them? I get an occasional email, and before I got my decision, they sent me their course catalog and a few other things... is there more than that? Where do i sign up for it?

Hm, are we on it now that we are accepted?
I know if you google it- it pops up right away.

"UChicago Mailing list"

several universities will begin sending "likely letters" soon, but I don't believe Chicago is one of them.

likely letters?

probably what it means is you checked the box on the PSAT that says they can give out your name, and schools will probably send it to people who score above a certain point.

I mean, I got stuff from the Ivy League, it's not as though they need to recruit people... (and I'm not sure I'll get into the ones I applied to)

When I got the UChi letter, i was THRILLED. all the other schools have been horrible (w/ one exception). It was amazingly personable, especially compared to the letters from other colleges.

no, you're not special -if that's what you're asking

Yeah, I totally get an amazing schools that is relitivley unknown like UChicago or Carnegie Mellon sending out letters like that... but why the hell does Harvard I mean the 8% of ppls that will be accepted already have heard of it somewhere...
