Lewis & Clark vs Lawrence University

Aside from Portland being a prettier campus than Appleton, WI, looking for any thoughts on how these schools compare. My son was accepted to both but we have not visited yet. Would appreciate any insight about academics, social life, school community, etc. Thank you!

With the Conservatory accounting for about 23% of the student population, that would have an impact on the social life at Lawrence.

So for Lawrence:

  • Classes are pretty heavy because of the trimester system
  • Student body is pretty diverse i would say, there is a fairly big community of international student
  • generally quirky
  • Appleton is very small and there’s not a lot to do around. You’d get bored really quick
  • First year students are enrolled in first years studies class which would be a mix of conservatory students and the college students. I wouldn’t say it’s hard to make friends.
  • One perk i guess is that there’s a lot of quality concerts and show at the end of the term that you can watch for free
  • if you don’t have a car your life will be quite sad
  • Food is horrible not gonna lie

Hope that helps

Are you a first year student? Curious where you are from? It sounds like you are not very happy at Lawrence. Sorry. And thank you for the feedback.

Agreed, reviving the thread… Sounds like an exception to what I’ve seen. L&C was filled with some of the nicest, helpful people we have met. Lawrence takes that up another step. Fit for purpose, there is no wrong answer.
