Liberal Arts Colleges with Biotechnology Programs????????

Suggestions would be appreciated!!! Looking for a Liberal Arts College with a Biotechnology Program. Would like to be at least 4,000 enrollment. My GPA is 98.6 unweighted. Thanks !!!

Consider broadening your scope in program choice. For a career in biotechnology you can do your undergrad in microbiology, biochemistry, or even just general biology or chemistry. Schools strong in those majors will almost certainly have professors who are doing biotechnology research, and will probably have course offerings in biotechnology even if they don’t offer that specific degree. It isn’t necessary to have an actual “biotechnology” major for the school to be an excellent feeder to a biotechnology career. You’ll likely need a doctorate, or masters degree minimum, to prepare for most biotechnology career opportunities. Also if you have interest in bioinformatics you’ll need to find a school with decent computer science offerings. My S took an introductory biotechnology course at the local community college and loved it, but he loves computer science more; he’s planning to major in computer science and perhaps minor in microbiology, biochemistry or biology. It’s also possible to prepare for bioinformatics by majoring in a natural science with a minor or course sequence in computer science.

Biotechnology programs are pretty rare, but the good news is that they are not necessary in order to prepare for a biotechnology career. I live in a biotech-heavy area and studied it a bit myself; the most common undergrad majors for biotechnology professionals appear to be microbiology and biochemistry.

Liberal arts colleges generally have fewer than 4,000 students – you may want to look into mid-size universities.

Would Biophysics be enough to get your feet wet?

Not entirely sure what liberal arts means to you, but Tufts has a biotechnology program and ~5000 undergrad students.

Rice, Washington University in St. Louis, Wake Forest (check out new Wake Downtown biotech center). Both schools are excellent and just the size you are looking for.
