who else has an associates degree in liberal arts?
what can you do with it?

An A.S in liberal arts will get you absolutely nothing.

If you are going to study liberal arts at least get a BA. I will explain to you what you can do with a B.A in liberal arts instead.

A liberal arts degree is a very broad term and each degree can be applied in a different field. One thing you should know is a liberal arts degree will never make you big bucks. If you expect to be driving around in a brand new BMW or have a $500,000 beach front home in CA you should not major in anything outside of engineering or maybe even business.

That being said and out of the way, what can you do with a liberal arts degree. It depends on what your degree is focused on.

If you choose to major in communication for example you can be a Public relations specialist, store manager, speech writer, journalist, etc.

If you want to major in Political science you can work with local representatives doing casework, or in local government, and other such opportunities.

Wanna major in Classics? well…don’t major in classics.

Anyhow you get the point I’m sure.

What matters most of all with a liberal arts degree is where your work experience is focused on. For us liberal arts majors we need to have a ton of job experience when we get out of college to be marketable and competitive. Unlike engineering majors we don’t get employers knocking down our classroom door looking for paid interns and handing us opportunities for work left and right.

If you want to get a job in a specific industry or field you can with a liberal arts degree. It is after all a broad education with skills you can apply to nearly every field and job. Getting multiple internships in the areas you are interested in early on in your college education will be invaluable for your success after graduation.

You are going to need to bust your butt looking for jobs and free non paid internships every summer. It is not easy but it can be done. Once you graduate with your B.A in liberal arts assuming you have a lot of experience working in the fields you want to get into getting a job should be no harder than for any other popular major such as Engineering or Business. Remember to make contacts and network while you are searching for internships. In life its much more about who you know than what you know.

Salaries for liberal arts majors range widely from a low $28,000 average starting salary of a social worker, $32,000 in political science to a communication degree average $40,000 and even some higher paying degrees as well in the range of $42-45k a year. Generally speaking it will be hard to brake $45k a year starting with any liberal arts degree but you can work your way up, and will likely need to.

I hope this answered most of your questions about a degree in liberal arts.

There are lots of rich liberal arts majors and in many cases their education was of great to them. The great thing about liberal arts degrees is the freedom of choice. There is no clearly defined path you must take in your life or career. Some people need the rigid structure that comes with engineering and business degrees. I, and many others, do not.

cool. hope i can get a good job with mine.

If the 2nd Post is correct… a BA in Econ is worthless…? No… Somebody has to do the Economics, it isn’t that bad. Or Comp Sci. Very doable.
