If those are 3 adjectives that describe my D, how would she fare at W&L?

Liberal, Democrat, fine. So'm I and so are most of my friends.

Non-Greek? Well, of course. She's in high school. And yes, I have several friends who are not a part of the Greek system. However, I would advise strongly against either you or your daughter going in with your minds already made up about the Greek system. You may both be surprised. I was fairly anti-Greek when I started at W&L, but as I got to know the girls in some of the sororities, I began to realize that it's a little different here. Sure, your daughter may decide not to rush, or decide partway through the week that it's not for her, but it's generally a bad idea to go into anything with a totally closed mind.

I know quite a few ppl that have gone to W&L or are looking there and they are nothing like how you describe your daughter - have you seen the view books? W&L is Preppy, Conservative, Wealthy, and over 75% Greek - only if your daughter wishes to be a minority in college in several different categories only then should she consider WL

Heh, NVNC might want to check out the number of Obama stickers on (student) cars these days (well, not at the moment- they're still gone). During Mock Con this year, the kids were saying Hillary would win, but absolutely cheering Obama. Something happened over the past few years here where the students realized the students weren't as conservative as they thought they were and have been "coming out" politically (it's also worth mentioning that the gay community isn't quite as buried as it used to be. Students are out and fine.) And most of the W stickers have graduated.

It's easier for girls not to be Greek, and if they go Greek, it's easier for girls to only have a foot in.

W&L is kinda preppy. Do plan on a black Northface jacket. But no, all the girls don't wear pearls to class. Or at least, not my classes. Hm, maybe there's something wrong with me.

And the Johnson scholarships are changing the face of "Wealthy." Not every student drives a Lexus. Some drive used VW Jettas, and have since I got here.

I think it's easy to stereotype any school, and W&L definitely falls into that. Sure 75% is Greek, but they don't all love it.

To be honest, I haven't met many Greeks at W&L - most students tend to be American. The international students come from places like Ecuador, China and Bulgaria. Not Greece though.

The liberal/democrat thing isn't an issue - unless your D is the type to enjoy starting protest. W&L isn't really a protesting school....more of a complain in the student newspaper school. The Greek thing - how do you know until you get to campus? Half of W&L probably starts out anti-Greek - but close to 80% end up in the Greek system - how do you explain that?
