“some of you will start throwing insults at me”
ALL one post proclamations on CC are suspect. For good reason.
I would not even be surprised that at least one of these posts is sock puppetry from one particular long time Liberty supporter.

What preconceived bias?
Frankly, if OP were a shill, he wouldn’t be coming on in early May. But his claims are what some of us questioned, the 275 majors, the success in engineering, the comparison with UVa.
Each family makes its own best decisions. Best to all. But please don’t tell us we’re prejudiced, based on some assuming we are anti the religious colleges. That is a bias, in itself. We all know there are many fine institutions which emphasize religion.
But as gator said, “Nothing good will come from this thread.”
I find it a little difficult to take a college with a dress code and a surplus of married housing- for students!!- particularly seriously.
Lots of colleges used to have dress codes, Q (just look at old pictures). In that respect, not having a dress code is the new conformity.
BYU has a dress code. And many married students. Top companies love BYU students. LU is trying to become the Christian BYU. It has come a LONG way to that end but still has a fair way to go. I do know that LU nursing and teaching grads are in high demand.
Your idea of conformity is my idea of modernization…I thought we were past the time when wearing a skirt above the knee was a negative reflection upon someone’s morality.
I’m sorry, it’s very difficult for me to hide my contempt for Liberty. It is an institution that labels itself as a place of learning and yet waters down or completely removes evolution or similar “controversial” notions from their curriculums. It’s terrifying. If you want to deny well-established scientific ideas, the answer is to stop offering biology- not to “alter” the curriculum to suit your own ideology.
Ok - looks like this misinformation needs to be corrected. Again.
Liberty is a fully accredited university. As such, they teach Biology to a certain standard. Evolution is discussed. The textbook is written by a secular publisher.
The creationist viewpoint is discussed in a separate class. That class is not a science class. All students are encouraged to express views that may or may not align with this way of thinking. Liberty does unashamedly teach a creationist viewpoint. It is a Christian school. If you don’t like it, you are free to attend another school.
It would be more specific to describe Liberty as a very conservative Southern Baptist school. There are numerous Christian schools, but they are of varying denominations (Catholic, Lutheran, LDS, etc. as well as Southern Baptist), and even those within the same denomination can have variations in religious interpretation (for example, the biology department at Baylor, another Southern Baptist school, does “not teach alternative hypotheses or philosophically deduced theories that cannot be tested rigorously”, according to http://www.baylor.edu/biology/index.php?id=77368 ).
The more I learn about the college business, the more skeptical I am about MANY schools. Liberty fans, you are right, we may not get the vibe of a school without visiting. But we don’t have to go to campus to learn about what a school offers. We can go to sites like these to find out about any college in the United States, Liberty included:
I’m not criticizing Liberty . . . not at all.
However, I believe you have made significant error in your logic. Specifically, selectivity is a function of BOTH acceptance rate AND qualifications (GPA, curricular rigor, standardized test results, and much more). Your initial post equates selectivity only with admissions percentage, which is unreasonable because it ignores the comparative documented achievements/qualifications of the candidate pools. To illustrate (and this will be intentionally simplified, using SAT I composite results as a surrogate for all qualifications):
I predict LU will achieve greater prestige once its sports teams successfully compete with well-known Division 1 teams. And I have no issues with mandatory dress codes. It’s refreshing to know that modesty is still valued on some college campuses. I wonder how that affects the Clery statistics on sexual assault.
Also worth noting-- this was just posted by Liberty on the facebook page for the honors program. Just wanted to add it for anyone who is still seeking current info:
As of May 1, these are the numbers associated with our incoming class of freshman Honors Program students for the fall 2015 semester at Liberty University: 175 accepted, including 31 National Merit Finalists & 38 National Merit Commmended students, who have the following averages: 3.96 GPA, 1400 SAT (critical reading & math), and 32 ACT (composite). Also, this new Honors freshman class is from 38 states and 4 foreign countries–Canada, Israel, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Biology and sciences as taught at LU are sufficient to get into numerous well know med schools.

What, is Liberty University hiring people to post glowing reviews about it on online formus? Or are you doing this work pro bono, OP?
Someone here needs to finally understand that it is against the TOS to post under multiple names.
Right. Because if someone disagrees with you, or if the facts don’t support your opinion… it must be a fake post. Makes perfect sense.
The “facts” so often don’t support any of our “opinions.” That’s how humans are. It’s how we get into these rambling discussions. I wish more folks would vet more, before asserting with such certainty. But it’s also life, that one person’s view is his or her own view and mileage can vary.
Yes, it is possible that some folks are less in awe of Liberty than others. Just as some posters are less taken by Harvard. There are no absolutes. There is no one true, unshifting, guaranteed picture of any college.
Luv, your daughter will learn how much she likes her school, same as the rest of our kids do/did. You did your research, best as you could, and will find out. She’s not there yet. Nor is OP. We hope for the best. I mean that sincerely. But I had two kids at one college and two entirely different reactions.
The undergraduate number includes the on-line programs, which at Liberty is huge.
