Okay, I'm not saying I did, or I will, just throwing that out there because CC-ers are very very inclined to infer people's motives..
but anyway, if you lie on college application, like if you got rejected from the TASP program, and you wrote on your college app, saying, I'm a finalist for this program, or more egregiously, I was accepted, but did not attend this program, how will college verify>

Bottom Line:

Colleges can verify an applicants extracurriculars and some actually do verify a certain percentage of applicants.

If you get caught, you can lose your acceptance, or if they find out after you graduate, you lose your degree.

Don’t do it.

An admissions person at UPenn told me (after I had already been accepted) something along the line of - “We know what your schools are like and what you’ve done. You can’t hide from us!” and laughed.

I wouldn’t risk it.

A friend who got into one of HYPSM was audited. She had to get proof for all of her ECs and awards, and the admissions officer came to her school to check up on her and stuff. It was completely random, not because of anything my friend did.

If you are gonna lie don’t apply to the UCs. They have a whole team of application fact-checkers who spend a lot of time verifying claimed ECs and achievements. With tens of thousands of applicants they can’t check everybody of course. Bur every year they catch a bunch of liars and rescind their acceptances.

Not a good idea to lie about such a prestigious program. I’m sure they check with TASP for a verification of admitted students or even finalists…there are so few of them.

As for less impressive activities, awards and whatnot, it has been asked over and over again on CC, the consensus is admissions officers JUST DON’T CARE. Adding an extra club or embellishing your community service hours means absolutely nothing.
