Liebowitz Stepping Down

Wow, I'm surprised I'm the first person to note this. Any thoughts on this issue (linked below)?

President Ronald Liebowitz Announces Plan to Step Down in 2015 | Middlebury

He's been a very strong president. Middlebury has been very fortunate to have extremely good leadership in its last two presidents. Middlebury has only had 16 Presidents in its nearly 214 year history. Three of them were there while I was a student.

I guess that you saw Timothy Light come and go.

I read the article that Midd Campus put out where he said the average tenure for a University president was something like 6 years or something and that he didn’t come up with this “last night” which leads me to believe this was indeed his own decision and not board recommended. Glad he will have another 18 months in which to chart a course, but I imagine he’ll get plenty of offers. He’s been a very good leader in my mind. I think he will be sorely missed, but I will have faith in the process.

Middkid, to quote the popular t-shirts on campus at the time, “we wanted a Bud Light”

Therein lies my love for the Middkid…. excellent wit.

I only know Ron Liebowitz as Midd’s president from what I’ve read in the alumni magazine and other widely available sources. I did have him as a young professor, however, during my senior year, for a very interesting class on the geography of the Soviet Union. He was an engaging lecturer and was well liked and respected by the students.
