Lied on college app

When filling out college applications, I put that I was team captain of the swim team. At the time I expected to be team captain, but the season hadn't started, so it wasn't absolute. Out of ignorance, I didn't ask my coach if I would be team captain in this year's season. Now it turns out that I am not team captain. I got accepted into my top choice school, and am really nervous about what I should do.

As of right now it seems to be that I have the following choices:

-attempt to persuade my coach into making a "b captain" position for me, so technically I would be a team captain

-talk to my college counselor about it; however, I'm not sure if he is legally obligated to release any confessions of academic dishonesty

-let it go and hope that in my college career nobody finds out (I want to avoid this, as I would be living in terror for the next 4 years, since the college can void my acceptance even after my enrollment)

I cannot express my degree of nervousness, and I would GREATLY appreciate any advice.

Hmm. If I was in your position, I would talk to my coach first. If he says no, I’d talk to my counselor.
I can’t think of a way, other than you telling them or them getting in contact with your counselor, that they would find out. However, I’m not expert on college application policies. This is a major mistake and I’d get it sorted out as quickly as possible before things go haywire.
And don’t ever assume anything. You never know what could happen!

It worked! My coach made me team captain. Thank you so much for the advice! For everyone who is reading this, PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES
