Life as a Graphic Design student?

I'm going to be entering college as a Graphic Design major and I have several questions. Do you already have to have some sort of "better" artistic talent than the average person? Or is that just an advantage? I really like art, but I can't say that I'm good at it, in fact I would say I suck.

Anyways, what's the Graphic Design major like? Is it competitive? Will it be very difficult to find a job after graduating with let's say, a B.FA? It's almost 2 a.m for me and I'm probably just rambling on, but hopefully someone will be able to help answer some of my questions haha...

What school are you going to?

Cal Poly Pomona

It’s actually more important that you have good ideas and design sense than that you can say…draw well.

In a marketting firm, you need to have great ideas! Campaigns that will change pop culture in a timeless way. Innovation in communication through every public media outlet, whether that means video, print, web, social media, events, guerilla, etc…

That said, some of the best graphic designers (milton glaser, sagmeister) could easily exhibit in fine art galleries.

So focus on your favorite successful artists and find out how they got there.
