ok so i am a senior in high school and bc seems to be a good fit for me. I’ve always wanted to live on the east coast and love the cold weather/actual seasons. i am from southern california and i am just a little hesitant on what its like fitting in at bc with people generally from the northeast. i have heard that bc is extremely preppy and i dont know if its completely true or just a stereotype, but my city is not really preppy at all so… Anyone had that experience going to bc from a place other thant the east? Thanks!

Dear jessicab23 : There have been many threads over the last year talking about life on the campus. The following five threads discussed various aspects of the BC environment : Pros and Cons, Dorming, Basic Q&A, and the Social Scene.

Try starting with these and see if it helps.

definetly read all of scottj’s links. ill also say that i was looking at hte numbers a couple of months ago when a was bored… and california is the 5th most represented state. MA is #1, then NY, NJ, CT. so you definetly wont be alone. i feel like theres TONS of geogrpahic disversity at BC and thats one of the things i loved about it.

and yeah… while the campus is extremely preppy i dont think others have a hard time fitting it. people wont not be friends with you jsut becuase youre not wearing jcrew. i had never heard of jcrew before i came to BC and i still done own anything from them. but i do find myself a bit more preppy than when i was in HS.

hope i helped, feel free to ask any other questions you have

thank you!
oh and how is bc politically? i live in the only liberal part of a city that is basically all conservatives in soCAL and i tend to be moderate. i know bc is catholic so that plays a role, but overall what would you say are the ideals of the students?
and also besides from the preppy dressing, are the students all stuck up like many of the stereotypes say? i dont care that much about diversity, but i dont really like the snobby i have lots of money types.
