I was at the Academy last weekend and it was wonderful. The end of the week and the mids were starting to relax. Done with their exercising for the day, many were starting to leave for the weekend, etc. etc. etc.

I even saw a bit of those amazing women playing soccer . . .Go Navy!

But, if you want to be assured that the Academy is not all about marching, excercise and discipline . . .

for some amazing videos of the recent Halloween concert.
this show features an all-mid cast, an all-mid supporting production team and some of the most amazing talents you can imagine for a group of kids that were not recruited for their performing talents.

Halloween Night is one of the most AMAZING nights each year. The extent of the creativity shown by the Mids when creating their costumes is nothing short of simply mind-boggling. From the sublime to the gross, from the simple to the incredibly complex, it is a night that simply defies simple explanation.

In short, it's a hoot! :D

The menu was normally individual pan pizzas, salad, halloween cake, and "Goblinade" (limeade). In my time, a MASSIVE King-Hall-Wide room-clearing food fight was a 4 for 4 occurrance. No joke. You could put it on the calendar.

Oooo! That was great! I had to love the pirate one but Old Man River was exceptional! It looks like they had such fun today. Must have been nice for them to play normal people for a few hours.

Do you remember any of the costumes, Z? I'm sure some of them have stuck out in your mind over the years. (I always like to hear about particularly creative or funny costumes and it's even funnier & more impressive given the environment and limited resources!).

Well, there was one guy who hand-made an AMAZING replica of the costume worn by the Joker in the first Batman movie.

One guy dressed up in a huge white ball. Around him were 5-6 guys in smaller white balls and tails bumping into the larger ball. (Sperm trying to fertilize an egg.)

My roomates and I dressed up as the shock troopers from the movie Pink Floyd: The Wall. I still have my Hammers armband around here somewhere. We ran into some guy dressed up as Hitler. That made for some fun.

Four guys in bathing suits. The first guy covered in bread slices. The second guy covered in peanut butter. The third guy covered in grape jelly. The fourth guy also covered in bread slices. They went as a walking PB&J sandwich.

One guy dressed as Slash from Guns & Roses. Got up on his table in King Hall and jammed the song "Sweet Child Of Mine" on a full guitar setup.

And last but not least, the most shocking one of all: a guy in a bathing suit and covered in red stuff with a wire hangar wrapped around his neck. Yes, friends, he went as an abortion.

Funny funny stuff ! (that's Dana Carvey doing Johnny Carson). Anyway, I'm glad we got the digital camera to DS before the festivities! Hope he remembers to take some pics.

I think I like the PB&J idea the best. Great way to use what you have on-hand!

Sounds like it could get pretty crazy over there tomorrow night...

"Could"? HA! More like "Certainly will be".

"Pretty Crazy"? HA! There is no word to describe it if it's ANYTHING like the old days.

ADM Virgil Hill (our Sup at the time, and a very popular one) said it best: "Take 4,500 of the nation's brightest people, lock them together in a confined pressure cooker, and you'll be amazed just how creative they can get."
