We went to see the USNA Glee Club performance of 'Oklahoma' last night and were blown away by all those talented Midshipman, both on the stage and in the orchestra pit. It's amazing to see the quality of the productions at the Academy especially considering there's not a music or theater department and that the kids take this on along with all their school work and military obligations. We've gone to the last three winter musical productions and never have been disappointed. If you ever get the chance, go!!

P.S. There was even a cowboy roper who entertained the audience before the first and second acts!!

atrmom is right, the Musical is one of the events that parents need to add to their list of "must do's" during their mids 4 years by the bay. It's a great treat to you and your mid to visit during the dark ages and take in a great show.

Last year we saw 'Damn Yankees' and the year before that it was 'H.M.S Pinafore'. We're already looking forward to next year's show. Although we've never gotten to a Masqueraders performance, I've heard they're equally as wonderful. They do their performances in the fall.

We saw Peskemom's daughter listed in the program.

sistersunnie, you'll love it! The girl playing Ado Annie is adorable and the girl playing Laurie has the voice of an angel but, you know, all the kids were great!! Have fun!

That 'cowboy roper' is a good friend of mine and companymate. As 26th Co. are the 'Rough Riders', we've appointed him as our mascot.

He had several full-rides on a rodeo scholarship to other schools, but chose USNA instead.

We all went to a soccer game last fall as a kind of 'spirit competition.' We won an X-box and TV because of his skill. He ended up roping several other company mascots and even snagged a guide-on or two, much to the other company's dismay.

"Ado Annie" was totally into it, her facial expressions and stage presence was excellent. Both "Laurie" and "Curly" have wonderful voices. The entire cast performed very well.

The Orchestra (I have to plug them as that is where mine is) does a great job accompanying the cast. Not too overpowering which can happen when there isn't a pit. Not being down in a pit was a new experience for mine as this was the first time, out of the many musicals that he has been in the orchestra for, that he was able to see the stage...a treat for the musicians.

I saw a few plays as a Mid. Julius Caesar and The King and I, especially the latter, were productions that would have put ANY professional play company to shame.

There was one other one, but I can't seem to remember what it was. Damn....

Hey, now! No comments from the lobster gallery!

;)

"The King and I" was simply unbelieveable. The costumes, the sets, the music. It looked as if you were on Broadway.

I still remember the name of the guy who played the king. He was a Regimental Commander, and as a Plebe, I had to know his name. Funny as all getout seeing an RC up there in gold tights! :D

Never let it be said that the Brigade doesn't have an artsy side. It's got one IN SPADES. The productions are top-notch.

I grew up in Connecticut, the Mason-Dixon line of baseballs's holy war between NY and Boston. I imagine Army-Navy is like that rivalry only worse!
