life + culture at princeton

how's the culture at princeton? I mean the general environment and everything. Are people friendly? competitive? arrogant? nerdy? fun? Whatever you have to say...I would appreciate your inputs...

thanks a lot!

All of the above, but moreso (by far) freindly and fun. Yes, some arrogrant people....but expect that anywhere

concerning hte OP's question, how nerdy/cutthroat is princeton?

Despite the administration's best attempts to turn the place cutthroat, the students tend to find over competition tacky and they often form study groups. There is a geeky crowd but then there are many students who are very well-rounded and fun but also highly intelligent and accomplished.

I agree with aparent. Although there are some cut-throat classes (orgo, for example) for the most part people work together and help each other out. People go over problem sets together, study for tests together, exchange papers, etc. Surprisingly, there is comparatively little discussion of grades - I know almost no one's first semester grades, and I believe only one person knows mine.

I think most people are friendly, a few are arrogant, and most are "fun", but definitions of fun vary. I feel that the word "nerdy" is almost out of place once you get to Princeton; there are groups that are less socially active and more academically-oriented than others, but the pejorative connatation the word conjures up in high schools is not applicable to very many people.

i don't go to Princeton, but i live a whopping two miles away and i'm friends with a bunch of students there. They're all really cool, and a lot of fun. I'm actually yet to find a "nerd". Princeton isn't as hardcore as people make it out to be (with the exception of admissions!) i think it's a really cool place to be.
