for people who go to st. louis university or washington univerisity, what is it like? what are some important things to bring or not bring there? how are the people?

st. louis is an ugly-ass ghetto city. don't wander too far off the SLU campus or you're likely to get shot.

ouch that hurts........

stl is great, what do you wanna know???? I have lived here my entire life.

hi!
i want to know what there is to do there...night life, shopping, concerts. thanks!

St. Louis does not have much of a night life. There are a few clubs on Laclede's Landing, but other than that it's movies and restuarants. There are some nice restaurants around the WashU campus in Clayton and U City.

If you like concerts, then you're set. There are plenty of concerts both at the Savvis Center, the Pagent, and UMB Bank Pavillion (aka Riverport).

There is plenty of shopping also. There isn't much in the city itself, besides the old Famous-Barr store (actually kinda cool, throwback to downtown department stores of the 30's-50's). We have two very large malls in the Subrubs: The St. Louis Galleria in Brentwood and West County Centre in Des Pres.

im_bored does have a point about the SLU campus, though. The campus is nice but some of the surrounding area is rough. Very ugly, very boring, and parts are not so safe. Don't get caught at Del Taco on Grand after, oh,..say, noon or so.

I guess STL is OK, I'm just sort of bored with it.

really, because I'm applying there. Is safety a BIG issue

Yes, and no. The campus itself is very safe. It is designed to feel and function as though it wasn't in the middle of a city, and they did a very good job of it. The surrounding area is a little rough though.
