Life Post Penn

I was admitted to Wharton. Do you guys think it’d be redundant to attend, if I have the intention of getting an MBA regardless of where I go? I’m deciding between Wharton and a liberal arts college, so I’m thinking it’d be a good idea to have a comprehensive education (with the intention of pursuing finance post-college) and then get an MBA at say Harvard.

Bird in the hand?

What? @Sportsman88

Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If you have been accepted to Wharton, I would think hard before turning that down on the possibility of being accepted for Harvard Business in the future. Wharton allows you to choose up to three concentrations if I remember correctly.

Wharton grads do well after graduation and don’t need an MBA for most career paths. What are the net cost differences?

Harvard, Stanford, and Penn undergrads are much more likely to be admitted to those three MBA programs.

Also, you can attend CAS as much as you want at Penn.

All other factors being equal, I’d pick Penn. You can get the “liberal arts” at Penn. Wharton has quite a few required courses but there is space to take non Wharton classes. I believe you can even major or minor in some CAS departments.

OTOH, you cannot get Wharton at the LAC.

I read somewhere that its next to impossible to get into Wharton for MBA unless you come out of HPY, applicants from Hopkins couldn’t even get in… that might also be the case for Harvard MBA. I think you’d have a much better shot at getting into Harvard MBA coming from Wharton than from LAC… I’m with bird in hand camp.

If finance is the goal, majority come out of Wharton undergrad and go right into finance w/o even needing MBA… so why not go to Wharton, get a job in finance and then let your employer foot bill for MBA??
