Lightweight Rowing Recruit Chances

Thought this fit here rather than chances

Hi, I’m a 6’2 155lbs lightweight, and I am going to be a junior in high school this August. My current 2k is a 7:07, I have not been seriously rowing for more than a month or two. I have experience in the boat, but working out and erging wise, only a month or two. I want to row at a top rowing school, most particularly the Ivies, and I’m wondering, is it realistic for me to think I can get down to around 6:30 or break it by August or September of 2016?

You will need to do a lot of work, but I suppose it is possible. Remember that it isn’t all about your erg time, especially for the Ivy League, but I wouldn’t contact coaches until your erg is below 6:45. Coaches are also interested in your race results and they want to see how you move the boat. Some coaches may ask for video of you rowing. Be prepared to sent your GPA, course listings and screen shots of your test scores. Good luck!!

Thank you! I will keep the academics in mind.
