Hello all,

I was just wondering if Michigan was known or had a reputation of taking (or not) taking a good amount of sophomore transfers. I may choose to go to a CA community college for one year (incl. Summer) and will hopefully have around 30 to 40 credits (but i can't really accurately predict it).

Going to Michigan would be my dream and I was just wondering if it is in vain as I know some schools are known to accept many sophomore transfers, and some do not.

Thank you so much!

Michigan is really unlikely to take you as a sophomore transfer UNLESS your high school grades, test scores, extracurriculars, and essays were good enough to get you in as a freshman. UMich explicitly states on their website that they give admissions preference to students coming in at the junior level. Sophomore transfers aren’t unheard of, but you are much, MUCH more likely to get in as a junior with lots of credit hours and a pretty good GPA.

For example, I was waitlisted/rejected as a freshman applicant; when I applied for sophomore transfer (when I had only 24 credits) I was rejected, but I was recently admitted for junior transfer (now that I have 56 credits). Michigan is usually really happy to take junior transfers, so save yourself the $60 application fee, stack up as many credit hours as you can your first two years, and apply to transfer to Michigan as a junior!

Good luck!

I was wondering if I had 30 college credits already from highschool (A level subjects) and another 30 credits from freshmen year: would I be a junior standing w a good chance for Ross business school sophomore transfer?
