When are Likely/Early write letters expected?

Last year first one reported was received on 3/11.

Admissions asked for student recruitment volunteers starting next week (right after Spring Break for Swatties), so I’d expect them soon. I believe Swarthmore likes to send early writes to ALANA (URM+Asian) students, because of the higher yield.

Last year, my daughter received her early write (not a likely letter, as the letter she received officially offered admission) on March 11th. Last year, unlike many other highly selective institutions, Swarthmore sent early writes to non-URM females. This was a big factor in her choosing Swat over her other options. Well played, Swarthmore :)

Swarthmore has been sending early writes to non-Asian, non-URMs for a long time. D got one in 2003.

ohhh gosh and now the frantic mailman stalking begins again.

I didn’t mean that Swarthmore only sends early writes to ALANA students–just that they seem to send a lot of early writes to students of color. I believe every school is willing to send early notifications to the students it wants most, including white females; but the “exceptional” bar is set higher.

^i would leave it at that in terms of URMs/students of color lest a debate begins…

Wonderful, being Asian may help me for once!

Receieved an early write today in the mail. Best of luck to everyone!

I received mine today.

!!! :D

My boyfriend got one today!! I am sooooooo happy for him!!!

received early write today!!!
I was not expecting that…in fact, I did not know swarthmore sent early write :P

can you guys tell us what date was it mailed?

I GOT MINE TODAY TOO! I am so excited!

Mine is dated March 9th :)

I got mine today, too! Perfect birthday present :)

i got mine yesterday too! it was completely unexpected :D

Received mine in the mail yesterday! Congrats to those who received one as well, and best of luck to the rest of you!

Does anyone know what percent of acceptances are early writes?

My school already has three kids accepted, so even though most people would consider me to objectively be a better applicant, I think the lack of news after early writes means I have no shot.

@CranberryOrange: I think it means that you have the same shot that you had before early writes were mailed.

===========================================================

On a side note (offered in general terms, to many, not to any one single applicant): I am bewildered and bemused at the leaps of logic people take across lo these many forums, going out of their way in desperate attempts to imbue every action or piece of information coming from admissions offices (and financial aid offices) as portending their own specific admission fate. I think the mind set goes something like this:

“If the financial aid office greets my call cheerily, I’m in! If I didn’t get flown in for an arts scholarship interview, I’m screwed! (Never mind that I didn’t apply for financial aid and haven’t an artistic bone in my body…this scant feedback has to mean something and it has to be personal to me…so I’m going to divine the meaning because, if I don’t, the next two weeks will drive me (even more) batty.)”
