thanks for the responses - I'm still hesitant about telling teachers, etc. until I get an official letter. I've been in contact with an undergrad at Yale so hopefully they can set some of that stuff up for me.

cerulean - wow, I'm impressed that you know two past likelies. Before I received my letter, they were more of myth than fact to me.

Neither I nor my friends had heard of them before last year! I remember them being so surprised. I guess they aren't exactly advertised. I was impressed when I learned how few people get them- I was under the impression that they were more common if 2 people from my midwestern inner city public school got one!

Just wondering if most students (other than athletes) who get these likely letters have a strong background in the sciences. I thought last year there seemed to be a correlation between the two. I know a young woman who is applying for transfer who will be majoring in one of the sciences (I believe biochemistry or melecular bio). Hopefully, that and her straight A's so far this year will help her.

i got a likely letter yesterday. obviously i'm very excited and i think i'm going to go. the admissions officer called and said they sent out 100.

Nah, I think I'll stick with stanford, at least right now. I'm more of a math/science type of guy. But maybe my decision will change in a few months.

I just got a call about 30 minutes ago. Yea, I got my stanford acceptance 4 days ago. MIT was initially my top choice but I somehow got deferred early action =/.

I'm in a similar boat as you, stupidkid. I got likely letters from Stanford and Yale, and I'm leaning toward Stanford because it is more math/science oriented. But I'm going to wait until Bulldog Days and Admit Weekend.

I ended up taking the likely letter opportunity at Princeton over Yale. I really did enjoy Yale when I went to visit but I felt more at home at Princeton.
