This past Saturday, I received a letter from Yale's Student Financial Services informing me that my application has been marked as "Likely" and gave me a very generous financial aid statement. At first I thought this was just some letter they sent out to all students above a certain GPA or SAT bracket to get them thinking about Yale. But some further research suggests that this letter might be one of only 100 non-athlete "likely letters" sent out by Yale as unofficial acceptance.

My question: Is this truly one of those "likely letters?" It feels a little surreal to me that an Ivy League school has already unofficially accepted me, especially considering I'm neither an athlete nor am I at the top of my class (although I think my extra curricular activities are pretty unique). I just want to make sure I'm not jumping the gun in thinking I might already have a spot.

Thanks and good luck to everyone in the admissions process!

That is true. only a few receive likely letters, and if it says you’ll likely be admitted unless your academics fall drastically, that is what it means.

Yale is reaching out to three groups currently: Athletes, Questbridge-ers, and Science people. If youre in one of those groups with top marks and top ECs, its not entirely weird that you would receive a likely letter

Whoever asked me… I am a student here (and a recruit). I also know a few Questbridgers, and the YDN just had an article about giving science kids likely letters

I also received one of these letters today. It was extremely exciting. I am a Questbridge finalist and a potential science major. I, however, didn’t receive a financial letter though.
