likely letter?

I just recieved this letter from Mount Holyoke College. The other day I recieved an email from Bryn Mawr that was really similar too.

Dear Claire:

I am writing to tell you how very enthusiastic we are about your application for the Class of 2013.

Your application was ready by Debbie McCain Wesley and Catherine McGraw, both of whom brought it to my attention. Like them, I enjoyed getting to know you and learning about your significant accomplishments. We all can imagine you here as MHC and know that you'd contribute greatly to our campus community. Likewise, we feel that MHC would be a place where you would continue to thrive both academically and personally.

Our review of applications is not yet complete- we recieved more than 3,000 this year!- so we are unable to make any offer of admission at this time. We are, however, confident that good news will be coming your way at the end of March. For now, though, we want you to know that in a pool of extraordinarily talented applicants, you have made an impression!

In turn, we're delighted that you are excited by the prospect of attending MHC. As you know, this is an institution where smart, ambitious women from nearly seventy countries come together to challenge themselves and change the world. It's a remarkable community- because of students like you.

Warm Regards,
Diane C. ANci
Dean of Admissions

Sorry if there's typos, I was typing super fast. I was so excited to recieve this, but I don't want to jump the gun and get too excited....

yes, it’s a likely letter, congrats :)

The only sentence that matters… Yes, it’s a likely letter

Congratulations Claire!

Congratulations!

Thanks guys! Thank god… I didn’t mean to come off as paranoid. I just wanted to make sure. haha

Yeap, congrats!

Just out of curiousity, why do they send out likely letters like that? I was under the impression that only athletes recieved likely letters. Does this mean there might be a good chance I could get a scholarship?

Congrats, Claire!
I see you’re applying to women’s schools - Can I ask what has lead you to this decision? I was deciding whether to apply to some of them too. So what is it that makes you prefer women’s schools over co-ed’s?
Thank you :)

To be honest I never really set out to only look at all women’s colleges. I just came across them after research and took interest in Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Bryn Mawr, and Barnard. I applied to co-ed schools too, but the idea of being with like-minded, motivated women definately appealed to me. It was basically the reputation and programs the schools offered that appealed to me at first, but after visiting and talking to students, that’s when I really became excited about the women’s colleges. The environment seems a little more nurturing than co-ed colleges, and they really try to cultivate strong women. They are all amazing schools. Hope that helped at least a little :)
