<p>My mother got a letter from DUke today. It seemed to be atempting to set her mind at ease about the cost and show how generous they are because I get to go visit. Duke seems to have gotten the message many other schools haven't: often times parents are a large (if not the largest) part of the college decision, they need to be convinced just as much as we do.</p>

<p>that is a very good point. washington and lee sent a similar letter to my parents shortly before i was accepted ED about "piecing together" the costs of attending/how generous they are with aid. although i did not end up receiving any need-based aid, i still think that it is a good tactic that all private universities should use in recruiting students.</p>
