likely letters

does cornell send out likely letters?

whats a likely letter?

It's a letter stating that you're a likely candidate for admission - doesn't guarantee anything though.

lol... why would they do that? why not just send out rejection letters and have a "no news is good news" policy for everyone who isn't immediately rejected? seems like a waste of paper and postage and time to mail out a "likely letter"... are there seriously any colleges that do that?

I think a couple of Ivies do this. Duke did this last year.

cornell did that last year...4 kids at my school got likely letters...and all 4 got in...and 3 of them eventually went...i think likely letter kinda affect people's final decisions

Would they seriously do that for ED though? I mean, we're finding out on Dec 11 anyways.

I think Yale did that last year too.

i agree with boijia. they send out the letters to increase your interest, but since you're ED...they pretty much know you're interested and committed..

I heard UPenn sometimes just randomly sends out likely letters to ED applicants who aren't even athletes (by the way, i'm pretty sure all the ivies do for athletes). It's just to ease people's stress.

When would an ED likley letter be sent out?

im not sure but i thought likely letters were mainly for RD

Last year my son got his likely letter on the day before Thanksgiving. He is a recruited athlete. He got in ED. He's there. (Well right now he's home ... but you know what I mean.)

i also have a friend who's an athlete and he got his likely letter to Harvard at like the end of october (for EA). but trust me, this kid would have gotten in if he were 1000 lbs and couldn't swim anyway. he is a well deserved acceptee i think. i think that' s why he got the likely letter. if he were JUST an athlete or JUST an amazing kid, he might not have gotten it.

then last year my friend got a likely letter to yale RD after she'd gotten into harvard EA. i actually read the letter myself it was cool haha it was like 'we love you please come to yale you are amazing." i was like ghee i guess cornell doesn't want ME that much...:( lol no sweat i obviously wasn't as good as her. she was wayyyyy more qualified for any college than i was. she was unbelievable. she wasn't an athlete btw. she ended up in cambridge however.

so...err... I guess the big question is, has anyone here recieved a likely letter from Cornell?

i applied ED and havent

i applied ED and haven't

i applied ED and have not

i guess as we are in the process of correcting grammatical mistakes:

I applied ED and have not

lol. I don't think anybody has received a likely letter that applies ED.
