do top tier colleges (ivys, HYPS) ever give out likely letters for musicians? i know they do for athletes, and i wish they did for musicians as well...

probably not though

do top tier colleges (ivys, HYPS) ever give out likely letters for musicians? i know they do for athletes, and i wish they did for musicians as well...

probably not though

for athletes yes, for musicians no.

I would call these recruitment letters.

Some schools do mail out "likely letters" before admission results are out. From last year, i think Rice, Cornell, USC, Dartmouth, and Columbia? did this.

Penn and Stanford also sent out likely letters.

My son received a likely letter from Yale last year. He is not an athlete. I believe Brown also sends out likely letters.

I believe it is an "it all depends" kind of thing for non athletes. If you are very special in some way you may get a likely letter, but it would be very rare. For smaller school I have heard likelys are more likely.

Check last year's threads in the individual college's forum to see who sent what last year

Yes, H and S do send likely letters for musicians. I am not sure
about Y but heard it does too like H. P does not.

Music however cannot be the only criteria for the applicant.
Usually nonathletic likely applicants would have got admitted
on the strength of their other ECs and academics alone.
