likes neuroscience; eventually med school

My daughter's long term plan is attending med school. Undergrad starts next fall. She is interested in studying Neuroscience. Unweighted GPA 4.0; rank 8 of 230; ACT 32.

Any suggestions for college/university that is ideally in midwest region; not downtown urban; less than 20,000 undergrads; offers merit aid.

Colleges we have visited include: Univ of IL Urbana; Lawrence U; Regis. Will be visiting Wash U -St Louis and Univ of Missouri-Columbia.

Thanks!

would like merit aid so final cost is less than $30K per year. We have tried to discuss with her other similar majors since undergraduate neuroscience really limits the college choices.

Would you consider Case Western or Pitt? Both have outstanding pre-med and neuroscience programs and meet most of your criteria except for the “not downtown urban” part.

[Neuroscience Undergraduate Program](<a href=“CAS - Undergraduate Neuroscience Program | UAB”>http://www.unp.uab.edu/) UAB in birmingham has undergrad neurosciencce.

offers great merit ie full tuition for 28+ act and 3.0 gpa, full ride for national scholars etc.

11K undergrads (but it is urban so may not meet criteria)

excellent pre med advising!!

excellent sci/tech honors program (very cohesive honors college encouraging research to begin in freshman year)

check the rankings of uab med school…ranks quite high in various programs

uab receives more research funding than all other alabama school combined

pm if interested, son attends there

Sounds a lot like Grinnell - a top midwestern LAC in a small college town with outstanding sciences, amazing facilities, excellent financial and merit aid, no distribution requirements, wonderful faculty mentoring, no intro science class over 24 students, opportunities for research.

It doesn’t have a neuroscience major but it offers a neuroscience concentration. S is pre-med and has had a great experience there.

Her stats would get her a major scholarship at Evansville, which has a very good neuroscience program (they claim 100% med school placement for their majors). About 2800 students, COA just under $40K, small city, nice campus, nice people. Certainly should be looked at as a safety.
