Limit on number of sentences in essays?

Hope to hear your thoughts on this one. Some schools have a limit of words/characters in an essay. Some schools also have a limit on how many sentences in one. For example, Choate has a 815 character limit and 4-6 sentences on short essays. Do we really need to limit our essays to 6 sentences, or are they fine as long as they are within 815 characters? Thank you.

Every school I asked said word count and so does Choate. Words vary in length, hence the character difference.

Thanks. Maybe I wasn’t clear. My question is about the actual limit. Is it 815 characters OR 4-6 sentences, or 815 characters AND 4-6 sentences.

Right now the essays are within 815 characters but more than 6 sentences. I wonder if they still need some trimming.

That IS confusing!
Can you cut and paste exactly the instructions? I feel like interpretation your paraphrase won’t be helpful. But give me the exact wording and I’ll happily dissect!

They are asking for 4-6 sentences. Words vary in length and so there is maximum character count too. This is also true for 500 words which might have a different character count.

After looking at the form, I agree with @SweetBoy1 that it should be 4 - 6 sentences. DD first said 815 characters max but that was not in the requirement. It was in the character count under the box which says “0 of 815 characters”. Now she has to slim down her answers…

Thank you @Calliemomofgirls and @SweetBoy1 for responding.

Ask me why I know… I was at the doctor all day with son working on them. Then my husband looked them over and they were so proud when I got home that it was done. And then I read the instructions first…

DD only found it out when she tried to paste answers into gateway. She didn’t read the instructions on top…
