Limit to subsidized Fed loan?

<p>I thought the Fed loans were capped at
2500 for subsidized and
3000 for unsubsidized?</p>

<p>My daughter was offered a subsidized loan of $3500 at a school as an incoming freshman.
Can that be right?</p>

<p>Not sure where you got those limits from. The Freshman Stafford/Direct loan limit is $5500 of which up to $3500 may be subsidized if there is financial need.</p>

<p>$3500 is right for a freshman Stafford subsidized. In addition, there is the Perkins loan that is also federal, but not all schools offer it and even if they do, not all kids eligible get one, unlike the Stafford.</p>
